Spinal surgeries are critical procedures that address issues affecting the spine, which provides stability and strength to our bodies and protects the spinal cord through its vertebrae (bones). Due to the complexity and importance of the spine, any problems must be handled by a skilled orthopedic surgeon.

Common spinal surgical procedures include:

  • Fusion: This procedure involves inserting a bone graft between two or more vertebrae to join them together. Metal plates, screws, or cages are used to stabilize the vertebrae.
  • Artificial Disc Replacement: An artificial disc is inserted between two vertebrae to replace the natural cushion, aiming to preserve motion in the spine.
  • Discectomy: If a disc is causing irritation or pressure on a nerve, a portion of it may be removed to relieve the discomfort.
  • Laminectomy: This procedure involves removing a small section of a vertebra if it is pinching the spinal cord or nerves, thereby alleviating pressure.

These surgeries are designed to address various spinal conditions and aim to improve the patient’s mobility, reduce pain, and enhance overall quality of life.
